I hate to say this, but...

As a long-time reader of this blog, and a New Yorker, the fact is you have revealed a lot over the two-plus years as to where you live. I operate from the assumption that what you've said is mostly true. You're on the upper West Side; you have described going to highly-recognizable places by saying you walked "down" to this place, or "up" to that place, which narrows where you live; and so on and so on. On top of that, you've got a pretty well-read blog, and it's not a stretch to imagine that more than one client has actually found this site and figured out that "Lila" is actually Alexa. Armed with that knowledge, and a little persistence and snooping around (to the point of hanging around the neighborhood..who knows?), it's not beyond comprehension that somebody could have spotted you in this area and followed you. Do you really think that's so impossible?

It seems to me that now (as in, now, the next few days, not the next few weeks) would be an excellent time to take a long vacation somewhere. I've heard Paris is nice this time of year.

Go to Leo and ask him for the details. If the building has video surveillance, ask to see the tapes.

Be direct and straightforward. He's your doorman; he works for you. You absolutely have standing to ask for this.

This is the time to call in all your chips: the brownies, the tips, the smiles. Leo should have some loyalty to you.

The good news: Assuming the guy that delivered the flowers & their sender are one & the same, he didn't exactly conceal his identity did he? If he had half a brain he would know the lobby/reception is under video survelliance (is it? it should be). As for the card, well maybe he was expecting you to be there & give the flowers in person so didnt think to leave a card.

The bad news: If it is someone that shouldn't know where you live, then as a girl that values her privacy you may be forced to move, no guarantee the guy will keep schtum.

I'd try real hard to get a look at the security tapes, that may help put your mind at rest if it is a client, at least that's more of a known quantity right now.

I find the choice of white roses slightly odd though; if they were bridal roses you may well have a problem.

Let's start off by assuming the worst, that this man wants something from you. Since you brought this here, we can believe you do assume the worst.

Rose colors are not randomly selected. Each one has its own definition. You can thank the Victorians for that. A red rose symbolizes romantic love. A yellow rose stands for platonic love. A white rose can mean several different things. Innocence. Purity. The most interesting definition, though, is "secrecy".

Accepting that reading, we can also assume that the man who brought the roses to your building is not the same individual who sent the roses. Someone who is sending you the "secret" message is probably out to play the long game.

Also, isn't it more likely that this person is a past or present client, rather than a reader of the website? You might want to screen your files carefully.

And I guess it's safe to assume another message is coming. Good luck, keep your wits about you, don't panic!

Assume the worst as your cover appears to be blown, plan for it, and hope for the best. Get with Leo, get all the information you can, review the tapes; and, while doing that, make plans. Make plans ranging from worst case to best case, and be prepared to act upon them. A lot will depend on who it is, and what they want. Good luck!

I agree with S, get the details from Leo. Maybe his description and recount can help you figure out exactly who he is. If you can figure it out, make sure to tell this guy that he is not allowed to come to your building ever again! And if you are reading this, stalker guy, that is so not cool even if you delivered flowers.

That is so scary. I've realized how unsettling ti can be to have people think they "know" you from yoru blog. I can't imagine what it would feel like to know someone figured out where you lived.

Ok, let's just hear you are ok and not severely spooked by this latest turn of events. The world is a wierd and wonderful place - but sometimes just plain old wierd.

You need to explain to Leo, that you have a stalker that calls you 'insert name' but this was years ago. Explain that when he said the name, you had a panic attack and had to go inside. Then explain that you will have to report him again, and you need a description.
You may ask to confirm the tapes, just to be sure it is who you think it is.
Also this will alert Leo to tell you if he is sniffing around.

It could very well be a blog reader and this happens occasionally. They think you are public property, just like your inner thoughts.
Therefore, you need to be careful about what you post here regarding this matter. I know this is horrible to consider, but for your saftey - it's a must. He could easily be feeding off your fears. You should not write publicly about what you are doing to take care of this.
It's not worth it, and encourages a whole new level to your 'fans'.

Minimise the damage done and then move.
You can't be too careful.

I had a strange incident with my doorman and a secondary name. The guy who used it apologized for goofing up. However, he also pointed out that the doorman might think we met at a bar and I gave him a phony name. Anyway, it could be your middle name, big deal. A nickname. It does not mean, etc etc etc.
But yeah, find out what you can about the flowers!
