Enough. Enough negativity.

While I’ve enjoyed reading some of the cattier or nastier comments in a perverted sort of way, there’s just been way too much negative energy. So comments are gone for now.

In the meantime, here’s a final response to one of the most recent comments left on my blog by an “overworked NY banker.”

As an “overworked NY banker” I do have to say if anyone of my colleagues did bring a prostitute to a firm function he would immediately be called out. I simply don’t believe you when you say you accompany bankers and lawyers as their “dates.” Not sure what movies you are watching but it’s just ridiculous.

Trust me, if one of my colleagues brought a prostitute to a firm function he would be ridiculed and berated regularly. I don’t know of anyone in my firm or other firms for that matter who would put their reputations at risk by bringing a paid escort to a firm function. The embarrassment and risk of being caught far outweighs any self-gratification of having a “stand in” on their arm. I know you are probably thinking that no one would know by your appearance but trust me most of us are pretty intuitive and know when something seems fishy.

Maybe you write these passages because you are feeling older and not as attractive or maybe just trying to put yourself in a higher class of prostitutes. I simply think its all fiction.

I completely agree with you that bankers wouldn’t dare to bring a prostitute to an office function. Being called out on the need to bring in a hired hand for sex would bruise most i-bankers’ oversized yet fragile egos. And as much as we all like fairy tales, there simply aren’t that many Pretty Women who can transform themselves from a gawdy street hooker into an elegant socia-“lite” with a weekend shopping spree on Rodeo Drive. (I could be wrong about this last point because I don’t associate with any street hookers or any other prostitutes for that matter.)

But you’re a bit naive if you don’t think that bankers bring paid company to office functions. Nothing strokes the ego of an MD or VP more than watching all of his friends try to warm up to some pretty young thing who’s wrapped around him all night long. And when you’re making more than $500K a year like a lot of these guys, you can afford the best!

Many girls I know in the business are well educated and polished. While they could never pass themselves off as bankers, consultants or lawyers, they fit right into the world of recent graduates and professionals. As you may recall from my previous posts, I graduated from a good all-girls school, which gave me perfect training for the part that I play.

I’ve gone with several regulars to Christmas parties or one of those many black tie affairs where some executive gets an award and gives an interminable and usually unbearable speech. While my eyes may occasionally glaze when my dates talk with colleagues about some fixed income offering or M&A deal, I’m just as comfortable as anyone conversing about politics, philosophy, music or Us Weekly — especially Us Weekly!

Personally, figuring out a plausible story about how we met and what I do was the biggest challenge when I started. I finally settled on being a freelance writer for web sites because it’s easy for me to talk about yet hard to verify. Sometimes, I claim to be a graphic designer just to mix things up a bit.
