My family and I rang in the New Year lounging in flannel pajamas, watching DVDs and hanging out at my mom’s home in Virginia. There was almost no room for movement. There were so many people you could feel the building shaking and swaying from people dancing. Not exactly what I would have preferred for New Year, but not too bad.

Having to wait in line 25 minutes behind drunken Norwegians and Aussie tourists just to go for a pee ain't fun anymore! Anyway, if you're back in Virginia you can always go on the Trail of the Lonesome Pine :-)

I always wondered if people from outside NYC thought Times Square was "the thing to do." In fact, the demo isn't any different from that at Disney World. It's all tourists. Not that I think less of them, but that's just the way it is in Times Square on New Year's. It's a New York tradition with NO New Yorkers.

I had to LOL reading this...I think you'll find as many San Franciscans hanging around Fisherman's Wharf as you'll find New Yorkers in Times Square on New Years.
But you have to love the tourists...their dollars pay for the streetlights, fill the potholes, and keep the city services humming.
