I'm happy to hear that you had a good Thanksgiving, regardless of the pumpkin pie fiasco (at least the kitchen didn't burn down... or did it). A competent cook is not a requirement of a good life-mate, so don't worry about the cooking.

Don't feel so bad about keeping in touch with the family. I rarely speak to or see my parents and siblings, and I usually spend more time with my in-laws.

I have to ask, does your family know what you do for a living? The last family outing I went to involved each of us describing the last few weeks at work. Sure would be make for a much more invigerating family discussion...

You should settle down soon. I do not know how hard it will be for you to find a good guy to settle down with considering your work history, but it really does not matter. 90% of the women who turn 30 without marrying will never get married. I heard this statistic from someone, not sure on its validity. And I do not think you ever posted how old you are.

I am sorry if I sounded judgemental, I never meant to be. I never said her decisions are wrong. For godsakes, I really do not know since I am a guy. However, I am saying that if she wants to get married sometime in her life, statistics dictate that she should do it sometime soon.

On a side note, reading chelle's comment indicated to me that she or he was ready for a psychologically defensive post even before reading mine. But oh well, I do agree with you, chelle. That is to say, Alexa's life is Alexa's. Not even God can make her decisions for her(unless you get really philosophical).

Let us not kid ourselves here. The number of men who would permenately commit to Alexa would definitely be higher if she is not in the career field that she is in right now. However, a side benefect that one may not realize is that, for those who are willing to commit knowing what she does, they are most likely very fucking good men(loyal, understanding, in love, whatever).

Sorry to come across as defensive S., but I just hate the idea that you MUST get married to be happy and that after a certain age you lose your value as marriage material. I think the statistic you sited is a bit exaggerated, though I'd have to do some research to figure out exactly what it is.

Then again, maybe I'm not being realistic. As a few-years-over-30 girl who looks like a few-years-over-20 girl, perhaps I have the luxury of waiting longer than some women do to make up my mind on this issue.

Maybe I'm unused to the thanksgiving thing, but it seems to me these days it's all about giving thanks to the food ;)

though having said that, it also seems to be one of those times where people really relax and find time to do things together. I think that's something most people could do with more of.

concerning marriage rates---
shawohak is in the ballpark; the 90% figure falls closer to 35-40 than 30, though. But this demographic trend is also tightly correlated with other factors--zeitgeist, economy, race, etc. A consistent, stable marriage deadline across these factors can only be given by a range.

Nathan, thanks for the link. I have been looking for a source for a long time. I believe that women who do desire to get married should be aware of the stat.

As Nathan points out however, this does not take into consideration demographic factors. In parts of the country where it is much more common for women to choose NOT to have children, I'm sure it becomes much more common for them to delay marriage. In addition, this is sort of a self-selecting statistic. Perhaps you might phrase it this way, "Of the women who have not entered marriages by age 40, only about 10% of them are still interested in choosing that lifestyle."

You just can't assume that all those women over whatEVER age you want to choose are pining away with regret and wishing they were married.
